Now, I know what you are thinking!
"Flat Stanley! Where on Earth did you go??? That must have been the creepiest place, EVER! Cyclops babies, tarantulas, and now a snake??? I don't think I want to hear anymore about this visit!"
Is that what you were thinking???
Wait! Please don't stop reading yet!

I made so many new friends during my visit and I learned that sometimes friends come in different colors, shapes, and sizes than we may expect. Sometimes we become friends with someone that we never thought we could like in a million years! Sometimes, those unexpected ones even become our best friends. This is one of those friends; my new friend, Sampson the snake.
Sampson is a corn snake, but he told me that he sometimes wishes that he could be a bird, instead. He explained that it is really hard to be a snake because people think snakes are slimy, gross, and some people even scream and try to hurt snakes. Sampson loves everybody and just wants to have friends, so it hurts his feelings when people don't like him. He thinks that if he were a bird, more people would like him and he could have lots of friends.
Sampson said that sometimes it makes him feel sad that people don't like him. He gets frustrated when he tries to make friends because often nobody wants to play with him, even when he is nice to them and he doesn't understand why they are still mean to him. He was glad that I took the time to get to know him and we were able to spend a lot of time becoming really good friends.

To tell you the truth, I was afraid of Sampson, too, when I first met him. I was afraid that he would try to bite me--especially after meeting Candy the Tarantula. I didn't know what would happen when I met Sampson and I didn't want to be his friend, either. He just seemed so weird and creepy until I got to know him. Now I have a hard time understanding why I was so afraid of him in the first place!
He can do so many neat things! Can you find the picture where he made himself look like a heart? I will give you a hint, it is the second picture from the bottom. Do you see a heart? Neat, isn't it? If you look at the second picture down from the top, Sampson is making a letter "S" to tell me his name. He also does this when he is saying hello because he feels like it looks like he is waving.
I am so glad that I took the time to get to know Sampson! And I like him just the way he is! I never knew snakes could be so cool. He makes a much better snake than he would a bird.
