Exploring Outside

The first picture shows me with some Mountain Laurel, which is Pennsylvania's state flower.  It doesn't normally begin to bloom until late May, though.  As you can see from the other pictures, not many flowers have begun to grow or bloom yet.  The main flower blooming right now is called Coltsfoot and while they are often mistaken for dandelions, they are not the same plant.

While I have been here, the temperature has ranged from 20 F to 70 F, raining some of the days and with a few snow flurries on some of the colder days.  The climate in Pennsylvania is diverse, but even the people in Pennsylvania are surprised by this winter because they did not get very much snow and it stayed very warm most of the winter.

This picture was taken in the same yard on February 13, 2014.  This shows what it normally looks like in Pennsylvania during the winter.  While I had hoped for snow while I was here, it is probably a good thing the weather is so warm since I forgot to pack a coat!
