This is Candy. She is a Mexican Redknee Tarantula. She scared me A LOT!!! But apparently, she was even more afraid of me than I was of her, which was NOT a good thing!
When some tarantulas get scared, they use their back legs to flick hair off of their abdomens which then flies through the air and sticks in the skin and eyes of whatever they think is a threat. Candy was afraid of me, so she tried to flick butt hair at me! I was lucky none of it hit me because I guess it sticks in your skin and gets really itchy, sometimes for days! Some people say it is like having cactus spines all over you, but even itchier.
Candy told me that she was sorry and explained that she didn't know why I was in her house, but then she was really excited when I told her that I was visiting from Elk Grove. She has family there and hopes to visit Elk Grove someday, too. She asked if she could come back with me, but I really wasn't comfortable with the idea of traveling back 2,550 miles with her and I was really worried that Mrs. Tozi would faint when she opened the box to find Candy in there with me! Candy ended up being pretty nice, but honestly she still scared me a little. Oh! And before I forget! Her name is Candy because she is colored like the candy corn that you get for Halloween. She said that she had a scorpion cousin named Fluffy--maybe it is a Pennsylvanian thing?
